While I don’t live on a farm nor do I own a traditional farm, I’ve always been drawn to the rustic simplicity a farmhouse offers. In the past few years I’ve craved simplicity and taking time to enjoy the life that is around me in that moment.
Embracing this joy of simplicity has also translated to my seasonal decor. Gone are the days of rooms filled with cluttered festive decor. In its’ place is cozy and inviting farmhouse Christmas decor; from rustic elements to classic red and green touches. It is exactly this decor style that I’m sharing with you today!

There is no better place to start your seasonal decorating than in an entryway. When we think of an entryway we typically think of the space immediately after you enter through a front door. But what about those other entryways in the home, such as the space when you come in from the garage. How do decorate that space? Should you decorate that space?
My answer to the latter question is YES! You should absolutely think of decorating the entryway coming in from the garage. It’s still an entryway where guests will arrive. Even if it’s a small space you should still consider adding in some simple holiday touches.
We have a small space (or blank wall) that is technically in our dining room. It’s directly ahead as you come in from the garage. I don’t typically put a lot of decor in this space simply because it is a small area. But I’ve always kept a sitting bench there for guests to sit on as they take off and put on their shoes.
So how can you create a warm and welcoming farmhouse style entryway in your home? There are so many ways to bring a touch of farmhouse charm to your entryway holiday decorations. It’s easier than you think! Here are my top 3 tips for getting started.
How To Create A Cozy Farmhouse Christmas Entryway
- Shop your home. You’d be surprised by what you will find. Many of the home decor accents I used were already what I had on hand!
- Choose an anchor color. This helps to unify the decor and accents. I chose the color green because I already had a number of the decor accents on hand (see #1!).
- Choose a theme. For my design I chose trees or more specifically, Christmas pine trees. They were quite popular last year and I’m sure will be equally so this year too!
If you wish to create a cozy Christmas entryway using farmhouse style, I would suggest starting with the color green. It’s subtle and has a natural, soothing outdoors effect. But if you want to jump into farmhouse Christmas style and don’t mind a bold color, by all means start with the color red!

Warm & Welcoming Farmhouse Christmas Entryway
My overall goal for this space was to create a welcoming sitting area anchored with lush holiday greenery, elements from nature with small pops of Christmas red color. Let me walk you through each of the main elements in this holiday entryway design.
1
Vintage Sitting Bench
Let’s talk about this oak wood sitting bench. This bench has seen just about every room in our home. But once I moved it to this space…it’s been there ever since. It’s the perfect size for this wall and space!
This bench was also handmade for me by my husband shortly after we moved into our house. I love this bench and won’t ever get rid of it. It’s so well made and very farmhouse sturdy! He also made me another bench just like this one but longer; that’s in another room of the house.
Rather than go out and buy a sitting bench in a more current wood tone, I decided to work with the vintage oak sitting bench I already had…and love! I knew that the right color green would be just perfect for this farmhouse Christmas entryway. So that is what became my anchor color.
2
Potted Christmas Trees
Adding various sized faux pine trees was the anchor theme to my farmhouse Christmas entryway. This one design element was carried across the entire wall space and also helped to keep the design visually balanced.
On the right side is the prominent faux pre-lit pine tree in a black pot. It serves as a sort of mini entryway Christmas tree. I kept it simple by decorating the tree with natural materials for a true winter feel! This style pine tree is most typically seen outside and displayed on either sides of the front door; but I decided to use this design element inside the house instead.
Then to fill in that ever-so-small space between this pine tree and the bench, I added an even smaller faux pine tree. This little tree was also in a black pot and came with pops of Christmas red cranberry stems complete with mini pinecones.
The third faux pine tree to the far left is also in a black pot and has the looked of snow sprinkled branches with scattered pinecones across the tree. It sits just a little taller than the sitting bench. To fill in a gap between the pot and the tree, I added in a pine stem decor pic boasting pops of Christmas red color in its’ cranberries.
While these are not fully decorated Christmas trees they certainly offer just as much festive cheer!
3
Festive Farmhouse Rug
Every entryway design should have a throw rug to serve both decoratively as well as a functionally. I chose a holiday farmhouse rug that had all of the holiday colors I was using in it; plus it had a similar striped print like the farmhouse Christmas stockings hanging on the wall.
Having a throw rug is perfect for those snow-covered winter boots! While these tall green Hunter rain boots aren’t winter approved, they certainly give this whole farmhouse Christmas entryway a finishing touch!
4
Black Decor Accents
On its’ own this simple black metal reindeer wouldn’t draw much attention. But, place it against the neutral wall color on a natural oak wood bench and you instantly get the look of classic farmhouse charm.
One of the characteristics of farmhouse style is adding black accents for a classic and timeless look. Of course, I blame my obsession with farmhouse style on Joanne Gaines (Fixer Upper and Magnolia). Well, I don’t blame her because I want to thank her for sharing with us her inspiring designs and style choices!
Other Black Decorative Accents
- Christmas Trees in Black Pots (see #2)
- Hearth and Hand with Magnolia, Black Wire Basket (see #5)
- Black and white winter mittens (see #5)
There is a black decorative accent in just about all of the other decor: Christmas stockings, Christmas wall decor, farmhouse holiday rug and winter throw blanket. This ties together the whole look!
5
Textiles
It may be an entryway but it can still use a cozy blanket! Don’t be afraid to add a throw blanket or even a few Christmas stockings to the wall of your farmhouse Christmas entryway.
Another great textile addition is to add a decorative pillow to the sitting area. I chose to stay with my green theme and found (on-hand) a tree print decorative pillow that was perfect for this space! It has a row of green pine trees with an embroidered-edge to them and is finished off with a green fringe edge running along both sides of the pillow edge. It was the perfect addition to this space!
Also, I placed three off-white cotton coiled rope baskets under the sitting bench to capture all the winter wear accessories so they can always be found when you need them. This really works out great if you have kids!
6
Christmas Wall Decor
Since this wall space is rather large it helped to break it up by adding in some seasonal wall decor. I did this with a Christmas sign that has the traditional farmhouse black and white colors. It reads, “Have a Merry Little Christmas” and is accented with pine branches and antlers; so it went perfectly in this space!
To finish off your whole look, don’t be afraid to hang stockings on the wall! From the same store as the wall art I stumbled across a few farmhouse Christmas stockings with patterns that were just made for this space! I love that the stockings have the opposite colors of each other. It was kismet when I found these!
Have you ever noticed how much effort is given to creating a decorated Christmas home; but come January our homes look like a barren wasteland! I say we change this and decorate for winter!
That said, the best part of this entryway design is that I can easily replace some of the Christmas decor accents to create a simple, clean winter entryway. This is a great option for the January-March winter months.
As you begin to decorate your home this season keep in mind that farmhouse Christmas decor is all about creating a warm and welcoming vibe. Think of the elements I used in our farmhouse Christmas entryway to help you bring a touch of farmhouse charm to your holiday decor.
It’s my hope you feel inspired to deck the halls this season with farmhouse Christmas decor! Happy decorating!
