Do you like simple and budget-friendly fall decor ideas? Me too! In today’s post I’m sharing a Simple Fall Tray Decorating Idea that will instantly bring autumn warmth to your home. The best part is this decor can easily be moved right over to your table for a fall tray centerpiece!

There was a time when I would pull out all the buckets of seasonal decor and start decorating. But those times are long gone. Now I prefer to start fall decorating with little touches here and there. By keeping it simple, it allows me to see what works with my current home decor. Then I have a direction to go in (if I like something) to keep my fall home decor cohesive.

This fall tray was the first fall decorating I had done. I saw the copper pumpkins (which I’m crushing on!) and this tray just took shape. The mere fact that this is fall tray decor idea is simple means it’s also automatically budget-friendly! Who doesn’t love that fact these days?!

Personally, I don’t like to overfill my autumn tray decor because then it just looks cluttered and messy. However, if I wanted to I could also add in other elements. For example, wrapping rafia around the base of the pumpkins or natural toned wood beads. But I like the simplicity of this fall decor tray!

I may still go back and sprinkle in some natural pine cones and acorns. Although they haven’t fallen from the trees yet…so I’m impatiently patiently waiting.

Another fall tray decorating idea is my Fall Tiered Tray Decor in Farmhouse Sunflowers. I loved that design against our gold dining room walls with black and white checkered curtains! But now I’m happiest with touches of simple seasonal decor.

Supplies

  • Wood Tray (I used a 17″ long x 13.27″ wide x 1.77″ high Acacia wood tray from Aldi’s)
  • Faux Foliage Arrangement (I used a 15″ tall golden leaf faux arrangement from Target)
  • Wood Riser (Hobby Lobby)
  • 3 Copper Pumpkins of varying height (Target)
  • Candle of choice

As you choose your elements, it’s best to keep the fall tray decor cohesive by sticking to no more than 2 main colors and 1 neutral color. For example, I have two elements within the golden color family (the faux foliage and candle); my neutral is a brown tone found in the wood and copper pumpkins.

Steps To Create A Simple Fall Tray Decor

Is it just me or have you too been crushing on all the copper decor accents on the market this season?! I love copper accents because they really give a modern, yet warm, farmhouse feel to any home decor idea. It was exactly these pieces that started this whole fall tray decor idea!

But let’s start from the beginning. Below you will find all of the elements you need to create your own simple fall tray decorating idea.

1

Choose A Tray

My first go-round with this fall tray decor idea used a round tray. While it looked okay, I wasn’t thrilled with the tray as it wasn’t lying flat. After checking the store, none of the trays were laying flat. So I changed gears and went with a square tray that had handles.

Using a wood tray always lends a feeling of warmth to your fall tray ideas. But here are some other ways to frame or contain your autumn tray decor.

  • Metal tray (such as a galvanized one, copper, silver…the possibilities are endless)
  • Small wood crate
  • Woven basket that is not too tall
  • Cutout section from a chippy wood shutter (do you have one of these stored in your basement like I do?!)

2

Add Pumpkins

What fall tray decor doesn’t have pumpkins in it?! Pumpkins are the quintessential fall decorative accent. As I already mentioned, it was the copper pumpkins that inspired me for this fall tray idea. You really can’t go wrong with copper accents especially during the fall season!

Not into the copper? Don’t worry because below is my short list of some pretty fall decor pieces that might inspire you.

  • Pumpkins
  • Sunflowers
  • Autumn florals or hydrangeas
  • Apples
  • Colorful leaves
  • Dried corn
  • Miniature hay bale
  • Amber glass
  • Cinnamon sticks

In the final picture, you can see I wrapped jute twine around the pumpkin stems and the faux foliage jar to give it a more earthy feel.

3

Add Faux Foliage

Here is where you can get a little creative. Again, you can use foliage leaves or florals. You can choose vibrant autumn colors for a more traditional farmhouse look or muted fall tones for more of a modern look. If it is your decor style is more elegant and glam try using dried blush roses for a more romantic feel.

What you add to your autumn tray centerpiece decor is totally up to you! For my fall tray decor idea I was also inspired by these faux golden-orange leaves. Plus it didn’t hurt that they paired perfectly with a candle I already had!

3

Add A Candle

The best way to truly add some ambiance to your fall tray decor idea is to incorporate a fall-scented candle. There are so many options out there that you’re sure to find a scent you like. I absolutely love vanilla bean scents for a cozy feeling.

My #1 tip is always to shop your home first. That’s exactly where I found this candle…which I had forgotten about since it was tucked way back in a cabinet. So this was really a prized find!

Rather than have the candle sit directly on the tray, I used a riser to give it more height. Plus it adds a new dimensional layer to the overall look.

Did I mention how much I love the fact that I can easily move this tray around the house?! It would make for a great fall table tray decor. It would also make a beautiful display in my 5 Ways To Create A Cozy Fall Living Room Corner.

It’s so versatile! I even moved it in front of the island stovetop and it looks amazing with my Hearth and Hand by Magnolia stainless steel teapot. LOVE!!
