When you feel the need to be creative and don’t have any “new” Cricut blanks…what do you do? Well, if you’re like me you shop your own home! That’s exactly what I did for this Valentine’s Day craft. I’ve had these two ceramic heart-shaped dishes for a few years now. But they were just plain pink and white heart dishes.

They are the perfect size to use as either trinket dishes or candy dishes. I opted for the latter of the two and decided to sweeten them up a bit with some vinyl.

This is a super quick and easy Cricut project that can be done in just minutes. You can use this DIY craft idea to transform just about any dish, plate or cup using Cricut vinyl. This idea is also great for galentine’s gifting and Valentine’s Day gifts in general!

Just keep in mind that vinyl is not food safe so be sure to place your vinyl where food won’t be touching it. In the case of my Cricut project I plan to use it only for candy that is wrapped (chocolate candy, of course!).

Although these pink and white heart-shaped dishes are a few years old I’m sure you can still find something similar at the Target Dollar Spot. They always have some great finds for seasonal gifting and crafting!

DIY Valentine’s Day Heart Dish

This was such a quick and easy Cricut project that I completely forgot to get process pictures! But, that’s okay because as I said…it’s super easy!

You can use any Cricut cutting machine that you’d like for this project. I chose my Cricut Joy Xtra but I could’ve easily used my Cricut Joy, as well. It’s not a big cutting project. Let’s go through the steps.

Project Steps

  1. Setup the wording how you want it (size, etc.) in Cricut Design Space.
  2. Get your preferred vinyl color onto the cutting mat.
  3. Load your mat into your Cricut machine and send your project to cut (Go).
  4. Weed your vinyl.
  5. Get your vinyl onto transfer tape.
  6. Line up your wording on your dish how you’d like it and start burnishing down.
  7. Peel your transfer tape and…that’s it!

Now that the project is done, I can these heart-shaped dishes with some delicious chocolates and most definitely Hershey Kisses! Then I can pair the chocolate filled dishes filled with the DIY Cricut Keepsake Love Notes Heart Boxes (which will contain all my sweet sentiments)…and it’s ready for gifting!

I think the hardest part of this whole project was deciding what quote or sweet sentiment I wanted to use! What sweet sentiment(s) would you use on your project? I’d love to hear your ideas! Drop me a comment below.
