Wood Snowflake Tray With Cricut Vinyl
Looking for a quick holiday decor idea that can easily fit into your Christmas theme? Not only is this project perfect for Christmas decorating; it can easily transfer into January as well! In this post you’ll get all the tips you need to create this Wood Snowflake Tray with Cricut Vinyl.

When I started this project I was just going to cut a large vinyl snowflake for the top. But once I finished that I was inspired to add the wording “Snowflakes are kisses from heaven” to the diameter edge of the tray.
I love how I can use it for both my Christmas decor as well as my pared down winter decor. Decorating with snowflakes is always one of my favorite things to do. You’ve no doubt heard about how each snowflake that is created in nature is completely different. It’s quite the fascinating fact!

You can really put any quote along the tray edge that you like, just be sure to measure the diameter and size your Cricut project accordingly. On the day I created this Wood Snowflake Tray using vinyl I was thinking about my mother and that is what inspired me to add the quote along the diameter edge.

Snowflake Tray With Cricut Vinyl Details
This Wood Snowflake Tray with Cricut Vinyl is just one of a handful of snowflake projects I created as Christmas gifts and/or holiday decor. When you add snowflakes into your decor at Christmas time it gives you the option to leave them up through winter.
I love gifting DIY projects created with a snowflake theme because they are so versatile. You can make them look rich and elegant (such as a gold and white theme) or cozy and joyful (such as a frosted blue and white theme). No matter how you dress them up, snowflakes are perfect!

1
Weed Vinyl Design
As with any Cricut design, the larger the design the easier it will be to weed it out. This vinyl snowflake was quite easy to weed because it was rather large at 6-3/4″ diameter.
I did place a few small vinyl snowflakes along the diameter edge and I can say they were quite the challenge to weed out. But just take your time and you’ll be fine.

2
apply transfer tape
After years of creating Cricut projects I’ve developed quote a few tricks to help my projects along. One of those Cricut tips is how to apply transfer tape to a large design such as this Wood Snowflake Tray with Cricut Vinyl.
To start you want to pull away about 1/4″ of the transfer tape backing and fold it over. Place that 1/4″ exposed transfer tape to your design as shown below.

Next take your Cricut scrapper and run it along the transfer tape pushing it down your design. You can use a longer scrapper or gently and slowly push it left to right down the design.

If you follow these tips for applying vinyl to a large design, you won’t have any issue getting your design onto the transfer tape!

3
Apply Design To Tray
Now you are ready to apply the design onto the tray. My next Cricut tip is to cut around the snowflake to create a circular edge that matches the inner part of the tray. The reason for cutting the transfer tape before applying to a circular tray is to make sure you don’t wrinkle your design.
Trying to fit a square of transfer tape into a circle with an edge is not easy. So follow this tip and your project will come out perfectly!

4
Vinyl Snowflake Design
Isn’t that view beautiful?! It’s a perfect vinyl snowflake design and now my tray is ready to be used!
If you wanted to be “extra” you could even paint a wintery color across the top edge of the tray. I opted to leave mine as the natural wood. That way, no matter what theme I decorating with this snowflake tray will fit perfectly in my home.
What I failed to get pictures of was how I applied the vinyl wording around the diameter of the tray. But I think you get the idea of how it would be done.
