Need a first anniversary gift idea? This super easy DIY craft is perfect for such an event and better still for a December bride or married couple. With just a few supplies and some hot glue you can create this beautiful Winter Roses First Anniversary Christmas Ornament!

There is just something about deep red roses against a wintery white backdrop. The contradiction of color is both striking and beautiful. Having been a December bride myself, you can probably guess what flowers I chose for my bouquet.

In fact, I created this first anniversary Christmas ornament for our own tree. The best part? The flowers were made of paper which is the chosen 1st anniversary gift idea. You can see all the anniversary gift ideas by year in the DIY Keepsake Wedding Anniversary Shadow Box post.

Another plus to creating this DIY Christmas ornament is that I used a white frosted bulb from a past Christmas tree theme! I love that this ornament also has a past, present and future theme to it. Let me explain.

You’re probably already familiar with the three-stone rings representing the past, present and future of couples. Well, I designed this ornament to have that same representation. I’ve detailed below exactly how each is represented in this ornament.

Past, Present & Future Christmas Ornament

  • PAST – this was represented by using the white frost Christmas tree bulb from a past Christmas tree theme.
  • PRESENT – Deep red rolled paper roses and green leaves representing the bridal flower bouquet from our present marriage.
  • FUTURE – The gold metallic ribbon fashioned into a bow represents our future because we aspire to reach 50 years (and more!) of marriage together. The anniversary gift for 50 years of marriage is gold.

When ever I create projects, if I can, I always try to tie in something personal and with meaning. I definitely think this anniversary Christmas ornament meets all the required criteria…and it turned out perfectly!

Supplies

  • 2-1/2″ white frosted Christmas bulb ornament
  • 3/8″ wide gold metallic ribbon
  • 1-3/4″ x 1-1/4″ green faux leaves
  • 3 deep red rolled paper roses
  • White satin ribbon (optional)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors

First Anniversary Christmas Ornament Details

These super easy steps can be done with any size, shape or color of Christmas ornament. You also don’t need any kind of skill for creating the bow. Get all the details below for the full assembly of this first anniversary ornament.

Design Process

  • Gold Bow: What you are going to do is simply drape, loosely, the gold ribbon on both sides of the ornament cape. With each drape you are going to add a small dot of hot glue to hold it in place. Start with a dot of hot glue, place down your ribbon draping loosely; put another dot of hot glue on top of the ribbon you just secured down, loosely fold it over to the other side; put a dot of hot glue and repeat the process until you have three drapes of ribbon on each side.
  • Green Leaves: For the best visual interest use at least three green leaves. Use a dot of hot glue to hold each in place.
  • Red Roses: Use hot glue to keep each rose in place.
  • White Ribbon Hanger: This step is completely optional because you can create this white satin ribbon hanger or simply use a regular ornament hook.

Variations you can make on this design is to create a wreath of flowers and leaves around the top of the ornament; or glue everything in place like I did keeping it all in front of the ornament hanger (where you typically use an ornament hook to adhere to the tree.
