Sadly, our first dog was not a fan of fireworks. It broke my heart every time we started to hear them go off because it would send her into an anxiety attack. If you have a fearful pet you know exactly what I mean. Creating this dog bandana made me think of her because it’s almost like a red super hero cape!
With our current dog (thankfully) all she does is bark at the loud noises that come from fireworks. Since we were all going to be wearing our Patriotic Let Freedom Ring T-Shirt I decided at the last minute to include her in our 4th of July celebration with a patriotic bandana.

We had taken a great picture of our dog on Memorial Day 2023 sitting in our wicker chairs outside. I ended up using that photo in the Stars and Stripes Happy Planner Spread and loved how it came out. She is pretty photogenic!
That aside, let’s get started!
Patriotic Pup Dog Bandana Details
This personalized pet bandana is so easy to create and it doesn’t require a lot of supplies! Depending on the size of the bandana that you are cutting vinyl for you could even use your vinyl scraps.
This Cricut project took me less than a half-hour to complete it. Before starting I did iron the bandana throughly because it was pretty creased up.
Initially I tried to use a single piece of vinyl for each of the three colors (silver, white and blue). But since I didn’t give enough extra space my cuts were off. So that’s when I pulled out my scraps and just ended up piecing the design back together as I ironed it on.
My tip if you are going to use vinyl scraps is to make sure your nestled letters are where they should be before you iron them on. You can see what I mean in the image above with the black directional arrows. For example, with the word “red”, the letter “e” nests on top of the letter “h” in the word “white”.
Cricut Tip: If you are cutting a small intricate design using Cricut Sports Flex Iron-On is the best product for weeding out, cleanly, those pesky smaller areas. #cricuttips
As you can see the ampersand in my final project is still cut-off at the bottom slightly. But I’m pretty sure our Ruby girl won’t mind at all! Also this particular bandana is human-sized at 21 inches by 21 inches. To make it work for her I simply folded the long edge over a few times and it worked perfectly.
