Create an Easy DIY Halloween Boo Door Hanger
With each season or celebration, I love to change up my door wreath decoration. It’s the first thing that guests see when they arrive at your doorstep and it most certainly offers a warm welcome into your home.
I’ve been using this very door hanger decoration, during the month of October, since 2014 (when I created it). While I don’t decorate much, if at all, for halloween, one thing I do make sure to decorate is our front door. I’m sure your guests will love this welcoming decoration, as much as, you will love creating this easy DIY craft!
So let’s get started. This quick and easy DIY door hanger takes just five primary supplies to make. Here’s what you will need:
- Wood letters (this tutorial uses “Boo”, but you could also use “Eek” or any other scary word)
- Spider decorations (I used clips since they are so easy to clip on the ribbon anywhere!)
- Halloween themed wire-edge ribbon
- Twine
- Halloween themed 6×6 square scrapbook paper
Other supplies you will need to complete this craft:
- Mod podge
- Sponge brush
- Pencil
- Scissors

Assembly is also super easy. After just a few steps, you will ready to hang on your front door. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Lay your scrapbook paper down with the image facing the table. You are going to take each letter and trace the letter (inverted) onto the backside of the paper (so trace on the side of the paper you don’t want to have showing on the front of the letter). Depending on the paper print/paper image, you may have to adjust how you trace your outline.
Step 2: Using you scissors, cut out each letter….carefully.
Step 3: Using the sponge applicator brush, place a coating of mod podge on the face of the letter. Let that set for no more than 30 seconds (before putting the paper on top). Then place the paper letter cutout over the front (top)of the letter (that you just applied mod podge). Press the paper onto the mod podge to get it to adhere. Don’t worry if it doesn’t all adhere.
Step 4: Using the sponge applicator, brush on a coating of mod podge over the scrapbook paper. Here is where you want to make sure the paper fully sticks down on the letter.
TIP: Once your letters are dry, if you have any overhang on the scrap paper, you can either lightly file it down or use an exacto knife to trim it off.
Step 5: While the letters are drying, you want to make your bow. You can make your bow as big or small as you’d like. I chose three ribbon loops with medium length tails.
Step 6: As long as your letters are fully dry, you can start assembling. Use the twine to connect the letters and also to connect the letters to your bow. Be sure to have a loop on the back of the bow to attach to you door. Then clip on your two spiders and you’re done. Easy peasy!
