DIY Wedding Shadow Box Keepsake Idea Using Invitation
Autumn weddings are some of the most inspiring and beautiful events to attend. Instead of giving the same old wedding gifts, why not DIY something truly unique?! Let this DIY Wedding Shadow Box Keepsake Idea inspire your next amazing wedding gift!

One thing I love to do is give a unique gift whether it be for a birthday, anniversary or wedding. I’ve been creating wedding shadow box keepsakes for more years than I can count. I created one for my own wedding too! After finishing this one though I am inspired to update my own wedding shadow box.
I love creating wedding shadow box keepsakes so much that I even shared this DIY Keepsake Wedding Anniversary Shadow Box celebrating a 50th anniversary. I included memories such as their vintage wedding photos and a replica of both the bridal bouquet and their wedding cake.

When creating a DIY wedding shadow box keepsake there is no shortage of inspiration to pull from. This is especially true when it’s a seasonal theme wedding such as an autumn wedding, summer wedding, winter wedding (you get the picture).
When using a shadow box it’s the perfect size to fill with mementos from the wedding such as invitations, photos, garter, toasting flutes and preserved wedding flowers.

Supplies
- 8″ x 10″ Shadow Box (I used an Espresso Shadow Box by Studio Decor at Michaels)
- 12×12 brown textured cardstock
- White cardstock (I used from my scrap paper bin)
- White tulle
- 1/8″ Blue and yellow satin ribbon
- Sunflowers
- Blue floral pick
- White beaded pick
- Double sided tape
- Foam tape
- Decorative paper punch
- Autumn sunflower wedding invitation
- Wedding bells favor with quote card
Most of the faux florals I already had on-hand and I even used some of the smaller floral picks from the DIY Keepsake Wedding Anniversary Shadow Box. The best approach is to pull out all of the elements that fit with the wedding or anniversary theme you are creating a shadow box for.
DIY Wedding Shadow Box Keepsake
Each DIY wedding shadow box keepsake will be entirely different as they are created for that couples’ wedding vision. Incorporating as many wedding elements as possible is what is going to make this keepsake gift so touching to give.

1
Create Wedding Archway
For this project, the archway was probably the most involved element to the finished design. It was also the whole base to my idea so I needed to create this element first.
The archway was created from a folded piece of cardstock. To make it easier to fold, I scored the cardstock first; then just rolled it up into a square.

Below is a top-down view of the fully scored cardstock. The side that was taped down to the brown cardstock background has a double thickness (see picture below).

I used double-sided tape to first secure the double thickness edge down. Then I used the same tape to adhere the archway pieces to the background. I used three separate pieces of cardstock because I wanted the top of the archway to be longer than the sides because this would mimic their wedding archway.
I used a decorative paper punch on each of the corners of the wedding invitation. Then I adhered the invitation down using foam tape.

2
Add Decorative Elements
This is the best part of the whole design because now you can let your creative juices flow. For my decorative elements I took a nod from the happy couples’ autumn wedding invitation. I used both blue and yellow satin ribbon, faux sunflowers and of course, the archway.
To help soften the edges of the cardstock archway, I covered them with some while tulle. At the bottom I used twine to secure the tulle to the cardstock archway. I wasn’t worried about the twine because once I finished the design it would be hidden behind some small flowers and the wedding bells favor.
The overall design was inspired by the wedding ceremony which took place under an archway. I placed the flower bouquets in the same locations as was in the ceremony.

I just love how this DIY wedding shadow box keepsake turned out. Now the happy couple will always have a joyous reminder of their special day!
