Sometimes when you need to organize your travelers notebook journals, you need to think outside of the box. Looking for storage ideas and inspiration for your journal collection? You’ll definitely want to see how I’ve organized my journals and supplies!

In my humble opinion everyday is a good day to organize. I’m always on the hunt for unique ways to organize my home, craft room and craft supplies. As crafters, journalers and hobbists we can sometimes amass a beautiful collection of supplies that help us create the vision in our minds. But then we are also faced with how best to organize all the things.

I’ve been an avid travelers notebook fan since at least 2017 so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I also have a large collection that required some much needed organization. In this post I’m going to share with you exactly how I got my travelers notebook journal inserts and supplies under control!

My collection consists of both journals with good quality paper as well as regular kraft journals in the Midori style. The better quality inserts are Planner Perfect Journals. Jenny has such beautiful artwork on her covers and I like that the back of the journal is in a pattern that coordinates to the cover artwork. The paper in her journals is simply amazing! It handles so many mediums, especially watercolor (which I love), and they are the first journals I reach for when I’m doing any kind of art journaling.

To get organized I’ve utilized two systems for my travelers notebook journal inserts. One organization system holds all my Midori style journals and travelers notebook supplies. While the other system organizes the journals that I use most often and want to keep nearer my craft desk.

01. Craft Storage Bin

The storage system I use for all my travelers notebooks and supplies is a Recollections craft storage bin (15.9″ x 11.2″ x 6.9″) from Michaels. These storage bins hold everything from my journal inserts to cording to kits. I have three craft storage bins in use.

Contents of Each Craft Storage Bin

  1. All standard sized kraft journals
  2. All pocket and miscellaneous size journals, cording and elastics, charms, etc. (shown above)
  3. All past journal kits I purchased (these are artistic hand-painted kits that I don’t want to get rid of just yet).

The beauty of these storage bins is the removable tray. It’s perfect to hold those small items and if you didn’t want to have it in there you can simply take it out.

What’s In My Craft Storage Bin

This system worked perfectly. But then I rediscovered the journals from Designs by Planner Perfect and; that’s when I needed a better organization system because my collection of journals grew a lot.

Please note: These craft storage bins are no longer sold under the name “Recollections”. They are now found under the name “Simply Tidy”.

02. Single Compartment Box

The next journal storage system I used was a simple box that I already had on-hand. I was using this box to hold my Micro Happy Notes by the Happy Planner. This box is a single-compartment flip-top box (8 x 4.5 x 5.5 inches) with magnetic closure that I had picked up from Joann Fabrics.

I discovered my standard size journals would fit in this box but the lid didn’t work with that plan. So as I played with the idea to use this gold polka dot storage box it occurred to me to cut off the lid. So that’s exactly what I did!

Here’s a close up look from the side of the box. Just look at that gorgeous red stitching!

Although I already had a number of these boxes on hand, over time this small box just wasn’t keeping pace with my storage needs. That is when I needed to move to a new storage system.

03. Triple Compartment Box

The third (and still current) box storage system came quite by chance. One day I decided to test my favorite size journal in the Happy Planner sticker book storage box…and it fit perfectly. So I ran out to Joann Fabrics and picked up more sticker storage boxes! The best part of this storage box is that it has three compartments.

How I’ve Organized Each Section

  1. Holds my B6 slim, an extra Planner Perfect notepad, pencil board, kraft cover folder, extra insert, three zippered pocket pouches.
  2. Holds the rest of my Planner Perfect Journal collection.
  3. Holds various kraft cover inserts both new and used.

The travelers notebooks that I use regularly are the Standard or Regular size (No. 6); with the exception of the B6 slim journal. These are the ones I needed to keep nearby and now I have two of these boxes filled with beautiful journals!
