The tag on these towels usually say they are kitchen towels, hand towels, or dish towels. While I wouldn’t quite say they are super absorbent, they are perfect for adding a little holiday flair to your home decor.

They can easily be displayed in a kitchen, bathroom or powder room. I love to drape them on the handles of my dishwasher. So if you are looking for a quick Cricut home decor idea, you’ll definitely want to check out the Target Dollar Spot!

The hardest part of this Cricut project was figuring out what quote to put where on the fireworks towel. After that, this project was completed within a half-hour!

Supplies

  • Cricut Explore Air 2
  • Cricut Cutting Mat
  • Cricut Basic Tools
  • Cricut EasyPress
  • Cricut EasyPress Mat
  • Cricut Iron-On Vinyl White
  • Cricut Iron-On Vinyl Midnight Blue
  • Lint Roller
  • Target Dollar Spot Dish Towels (DPCI #234-23-3009)

Cricut Tip: Before ironing on vinyl be sure to use a lint roller to pick up any excess material or lint. This ensures a good clean adhesion of the vinyl to the material.

Using your Cricut machine to add holiday decor to your home is really quite easy. It’s fast, convenient and fun! Plus if you find your ideas at the Target Dollar Spot, it’ll also be budget-friendly too.

Stars and Stripes Dish Towel

At first I wasn’t even going to use this towel because it’s pretty textured and the pattern was throwing me off. But then this idea struck me to embrace the red striping and add a blue star with a white vinyl quote.

You can see the towel texture coming through the blue Cricut Iron-On Vinyl. While you can see it up close, at a distance you can’t even tell.

Probably the most difficult part of this Cricut project was simply choosing which blue iron-on vinyl to use. I narrowed down the blue color choices to midnight blue or cornflower. Ultimately I chose midnight blue because I wanted it to match as closely as possible to the blue base of the fireworks towel.

To set up my design in Cricut Design Space, first I grabbed a star shape and resized it for my project. Then I chose a premade patriotic quote from Cricut Design Space images and resized it by overlaying the quote onto the star. This ensures I’m cutting the correct size for the quote.

Cricut Tip: The smaller the design, the more difficult it will be to weed out the smaller details of that design.

The little stars between the words were definitely challenging to weed out. But I got through it by going slowly and comparing what I’ve weeded out to the image in Design Space.

Let Freedom Ring Fireworks Dish Towel

This towel was more challenging because of the variously placed bursts of fireworks. Initially I was only going to put a quote at the bottom which is usually where I like to place my vinyl. But my first design cut didn’t give me the size that I wanted and it just wasn’t working out; so I went back in to make it smaller.

That didn’t work either because the image had a very fine swirl at the end of the wording. So I scrapped that image quote all together and chose two different image quotes.

I really wanted to get on this towel the quote “Let Freedom Ring” but then fell in love with the “Freedom, Fireworks, Stars and Stripes, America” quote too.

Each quote was cut perfectly and fit in each of their respective spots so I thought, ‘why not use both’?!

Cricut Tip: These Dollar Spot towels are the perfect project to use up those Cricut vinyl scraps!

Since the “America” word was going at the bottom and it was a finer-cut script, I did have to go over it a few times with my EasyPress. The blue stitching was getting in the way of the larger EasyPress. So I just ended up pulling out my Cricut Mini Press and it worked like a breeze!

Both of these towels turned out perfectly and I couldn’t be happier. Now I’m ready for the 4th of July party and fireworks!
